Course Content:

Our Child Protection courses comply with Hampshire Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB4) recommendations for training of staff working with children.

Alton College can design and deliver bespoke onsite Child Protection and Safe Guarding courses and programmes to meet your individual setting's specific needs.

The sessions will cover:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the new definitions for the four categories of abuse (physical, sexual, emotional and neglect.)
  • Understanding of a practitioner’s responsibility with regards the referral process laid down by the Laming enquiry (2002) to other agencies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the stresses that can increase the risk of abuse and neglect (including signs in adults’ of potential abusers) namely social exclusion, domestic violence, parents with learning disabilities, mental health problems, or suffer with alcohol and drug abuse.
  • Awareness of Prevent training and Channel Panel referral (Safeguarding).
  • Reporting to LADO if there is an allegation about a staff member abusing a child in their care

Studying at Alton College:

We can

  • offer training courses and programmes to meet identified safeguarding training needs within school, early years and care settings
  • deliver training by staff with extensive safeguarding knowledge and experience
  • undertake evaluations on the effectiveness of any training delivered
  • on request we can develop a bespoke training proposal for your approval, deliver the training at a venue and date agreed with your setting, and provide participants with a course pack and a certificate of attendance.

Assessment:

Your knowledge and understanding are assessed during the day.

 

Entry Requirements:

The course often accompanies an Early Years Diploma or Foundation Degree in Early Years. It can also be a stand alone course.
