Course Content:

Recommended for anyone working with children and young people. You will gain understanding of the role of the paediatric first aider:

  • provide first aid to an infant and a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  • with a chronic medical condition (asthma, diabetes and epilepsy) or sudden illness (meningitis)
  • who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold
  • who has sustained electric shock
  • with burns and scalds
  • who has been poisoned
  • who has been bitten or stung
  • with a head, a neck and a back injury
  • Demonstrate how to conduct a scene survey and primary examination of an infant and a child.
  • Demonstrate how to treat an infant or child who is choking.
  • Demonstrate how to administer CPR using an infant and child manikin
  • Accessing and use of Automated External Defibrillation (AED).

Studying at Alton College:

This session complies with the taught components and assessments laid down in the Award for Paediatric First Aid  (Edexcel).

On request we can develop a bespoke training proposal for your approval, deliver the training at a venue and date agreed with your setting, and provide participants with a certificate of attendance.

Assessment:

You will be assessed during a series of practical tasks.

 

Entry Requirements 

The course often accompanies an Early Years Diploma or Foundation Degree in Early Years. It can also be a stand alone course.
