Gifted & Talented event inspires Year 9s

Over 120 Year 9 pupils from feeder schools have been inspired to aim for the country's top universities as part of our Gifted and Talented programme.

Pupils and their parents attended the Year 9 Gifted & Talented evening which began with a presentation by guest speaker Dr. Wilkins of the University of Oxford.

2nd place in Cambridge competition

Alton College student Kris Stokkereit impressed judges at the University of Cambridge and won second place in the Peterhouse Cambridge Kelvin essay competition.

Kris, previously at Frensham Heights School, entered the competition designed to offer students the opportunity to conduct in-depth research on an unfamiliar topic of their choice.

West End to Wessex Arts!

Performing Arts student Josie Smith has secured a part in West End Live this summer and will perform at the iconic setting of Trafalgar Square on 21st – 22nd June.

Josie will also be starring in College production Musicals through the Ages at Wessex Arts on campus on Wednesday 18th June.

Students access Oxbridge insight

Current students, many of whom are on the More Able and Talented Programme, had a real life insight into studying at Oxbridge when several Alton Alumnus who are studying at Oxford and Cambridge (see right) returned to campus recently for a Q&A session as part of the Applying to Competitive Courses module.

The informative Q&A session which happens annually and is open to all current students covered applications, personal statements and interviews as well as what life is like at the country's most prestigious universities.

Alton College: ‘Best College’ for Maths

For the fourth time in its six year history, Alton College has won the trophy for Best College at the Hampshire AS Further Maths Puzzle Day this month.

The Puzzle Day was open to all the schools and colleges in Hampshire that offer AS Further Maths. Alton College took joint first and third place plus the Best College trophy.
