We recently welcomed back to College past student Andy Plom to film and produce our new College video. Whilst at College, Andy studied A levels in Music, Music Technology, Drama and Theatre Studies and English Language and Literature before going to the University of Surrey. He is currently Head of Commercial Video at Egale Radio.

Young Leaders in Service

For the seventh year running, College students participated in the Lions Young Leaders in Service Awards this year receiving their awards recently for their work in the local community. The awards recognize young people for their service in the community within a 12-month period and the scheme is run in College by Community First.

Instrumental Contract 2018/19

1. If you are studying one of the following music courses:

  • A Level Music
  • BTEC Jazz
  • BTEC Rock & Popular Music

You will be provided with 50% subsidised instrumental lessons on one instrument. The College undertakes to provide 22 half hour instrumental lessons starting in September.

Tennis with Tim

Skills for Learning student, Ben Tyler had the wonderful experience of playing against Tim Henman last week as part of the Henman Foundation Charity event. Ben was representing Bright Ideas for Tennis which provides playing opportunities to people with disabilities.

Brain Day

Biology and Psychology students were recently treated to a fantastic day exploring the brain when Dr Guy Sutton visited campus to take students around and beyond A-level material and into degree-level concepts and research. Guy Sutton is Director of Medical Biology Interactive and Honorary Lecturer at the University of Nottingham Medical School.

A Day in the Life of an MP

MP for East Hampshire, Damian Hinds, recently visited Alton College to give a talk to College students studying Law, Politics and History joined by a selection of pupils from Amery Hill School and Eggar’s School. The talk entitled ‘A Day in the Life of an MP’ started with Damian explaining the range of activities he undertakes on a daily basis.

Alton College and Havant & South Downs College (HSDC) have announced ‘exciting’ merger plans to ensure a ‘strong partnership together’. Chair of Governors Ian Gibson, stated ‘we are excited about the vision of enhancing and building on the outstanding academic provision at both institutions through this new partnership opportunity’.

Furthering links with Higher Education is integral to student learning at Alton College, and as part of this, Philosophy and History students were recently visited by Dr. Shaul Tor, Lecturer in Ancient Philosophy at King’s College, London.
