Junior Team Maths Challenge

Teams of Year 8 and 9s from Eggar's School and Amery Hill School worked with A level students recently to compete in the annual Junior Team Maths Challenge, designed to stretch more able students.

Portraits in Sound

Six-piece jazz/pop band based in Manchester perform live at Alton Assembly Rooms as part of UK-wide tour. Talented musician and former Alton College student Ollie West returns to Alton to perform on Wednesday 8th February as part of his ‘Portraits’ album project. 

Race for the Line

Alton College is the local hub for this year’s ‘Race for the Line – Micro:bit Model Rocket Car Competition’ which challenges school pupils from Yr 8-11 to design, build and race model rocket cars. The winning team will win a trip to South Africa to spend an unforgettable week with the BLOODHOUND team as they strive to break the Land Speed Record. 

A Play in A Day – Jane Austen’s Emma

Amery Hill and Eggar’s Schools’ pupils took part in ‘A play in a day’, (based on Jane Austen’s Emma) part of the town’s Regency Week celebrations on campus recently. 

Much Ado About Nothing

Blue Apple Theatre (stars of BBC3's Growing Up Downs) perform Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing in the Wessex Arts Centre on Thursday 24th September at 7:30pm. Tickets are £7.50 and are available from the online store.

Goldilocks verdict: Not guilty!

It was not a clear case of who’d been eating the porridge and sitting in other people's chairs for school children taking part in a special Community Courses @altoncollege CSI Workshop here last week, as Goldilocks was found innocent!

Lava-ly win for The Petersfield School!

The Petersfield School scooped top prize at our annual Above and Beyond Competition for Gifted and Talented pupils on 28 January. The final was held in Wessex Arts on campus and the topic was 'The Biggest Global Threat'.

New Year, New You!

Community Courses @altoncollege starting in the New Year range from Fruit Planting and Pruning Workshops to Boxercise Classes for kids, so the whole family can exercise their bodies and minds!

Beautiful sounds at Wessex Arts concert

After the successful Welcome Fest at the end of term, music students at Alton College joined together with prospective students for an exciting afternoon of musical workshops which culminated in an evening concert.

Samba fever prepares for festival

Children from local infant and junior schools have enjoyed learning samba music this week ahead of the Alton Community Festival tomorrow.

The festival will start at 2pm tomorrow (5th July) and will include a barbecue, samba demonstrations, sport and social club taster sessions and much more.

Southern Jazz Centre in full swing

The Berkoff Performing Arts Centre has hosted several music events over the last few weeks with the most recent bringing the Centre alive with the sound of jazz.

During the day, eight different bands and over 40 different young musicians from across the region performed at the Southern Jazz Centre's inaugural Jazz Festival.

Schools come together in Maths competition

For the first time ever, pupils from year 6 and year 10 came together to take part in the Alton College Team Maths Challenge. 

The 6 teams, made up of secondary and primary school pupils, took part in a fun and challenging Maths competition hosted here at College.

Local exhibition boasts images from China

The stunning photography of a trip to China is now on display at the Allen Gallery in Alton.

Taken by photography students on a trip earlier this year, the exhibition will be accessible from 10am - 4.30pm, every Tuesday to Saturday until the May half term.

An evening of acoustic blues

An evening of Americana and Acoustic blues erupted on Saturday night at the Berkoff Performing Arts Centre.

We welcomed the highly talented trio of Alan West, Steve Black and Adam Sweet as they performed a 90 minute set in our very own theatre.

Children get a taste of culture

Half term saw the College provide a wide range of activities for children that introduced them to different cultures from around the world.

Batik printing, pizza baking, skateboarding and carnival mask making were amongst the options available to the children as they were able to pick and choose six activities to take part in throughout the day.
