Vocational & Foundation Learning

Through these courses, you can gain and improve skills that will open doors to further study, employment or supported employment.

Class sizes are generally smaller and a variety of specialist support is available.  You can choose vocational options to try out, such as catering, drama, sport, automotive, art, animal care, health and care, business and retail, IT and hair and beauty.

HSDC is excited to announce that we have been awarded Hampshire SEND Employability Hub status. We are looking to take on a cohort of Year 11 students through a specialist, individualised programme where the outcome is paid employment. For more information visit our SEND Employability Hub page.

Alumni - Liam

Former Supported Internship student Liam completed an internship with Waitrose in Waterlooville. With his learning difficulty, he found some tasks difficult, however he worked hard to overcome these and secured a small hourly contract with Waitrose, picking up all the overtime he could and became a valued member of their team. He is now working at Morrisons.

“I decided a Supported Internship was the best route for me to progress into work. My job coach gave me support to learn the role and fit in as part of the Waitrose team. I am glad I took this route as I would never have thought I would be where I am now.”

Alumni – Will

Will completed a placement with Blue Reef Aquarium, where he progressed from working with the Animal Care team to working with the Visitor Services team and in the café. Will gained a lot of confidence and worked hard to overcome the difficulties presented by his Tourette Syndrome. He has since secured employment as a Support Worker with Dimensions.

“Before I started the internship, I didn’t feel I was able to work.  Now I have overcome my biggest fears such as speaking to the public, and I am now doing public talks in the aquarium. My confidence has grown so much. I couldn’t have achieved this without this opportunity.”

Careers

I would say it’s a college that really balances academia with fun, there is lots of extra-curricular stuff that you can get involved in. It has a really good work/life balance.

Laura Hagedorn, A Level student

“I owe the staff a lot and I wouldn't be where I am today without them.”

Tom Andrews, A Level Student

My time at the college was definitely life changing, I have learnt a lot of new skills, and obviously it’s a completely new experience. The support was great, there was always people there to help and try make it as easy as they can for you. The college is really fantastic, it has helped me on the way to get to what I want to achieve within my career goals.
