This exciting course is perfect for those wishing to explore their creativity in this inspiring, broad and dynamic subject.
Textiles is taught in a studio-based environment within the Art Department. We encourage you to be inquisitive, experimental and confident with your ideas. You will be developing your own responses to challenging and stimulating assignments. Trips are organised to see both contemporary and historical exhibitions as part of your research for coursework.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Mathematics. You should have studied either an art or design based GCSE and achieved a minimum of grade 4 in the related subject.
It may be possible to gain entry to the course without a GCSE in an art or design-related subject by submitting a portfolio showcasing your practical work at interview.
Year 1 is workshop-based and you will develop your skills in creating structure, surface pattern, free machine embroidery,
dyeing, garment design and making. You will be set assignments that encourage you to combine your skills, recording your
processes in sketchbooks and creating inspiring outcomes.
Year 2 consists of two main components:
Your work is assessed individually in tutorial sessions, group discussion and formally by component submissions. Final assessments are moderated by the exam board.
