Gifted and Talented students
Our annual Gifted and Talented Programme for school pupils began with creative and critical thinking workshops and a talk from Dr Robert Wilkins from the University of Oxford last month. The next event, a competition for Year 10 high achievers, takes place on 29 March and provides pupils with a taste of the Extended Project Qualification.
The 'Above and Beyond' competition's theme is “2016: A Pivotal Year in History”. Pupils will work in teams of four or five to prepare and EPQ-style project at school for example an artefact, presentation or performance. The winning team from each school will compete in the final on 29 March on campus where they will give a presentation on the investigation outcomes followed by a five minute Q&A session on the process of their research.
Alton College offers a special More Able and Talented Programme which gifted and talented school leavers are encouraged to attend alongside their study programme. The programme is designed to ensure our students maximise their potential and go on to study at Russell Group and Oxbridge Universities. It includes extension qualifications, curriculum support, special support applying to prestigious universities and extra-curricular enrichment.
