The course is modular and students will complete 9 units:
- The Role and Work of the Public Services
- Working Skills in the Public Service Sector
- Citizenship, Society and the Public Services
- Crime and its Effects on Society and Individuals
- Adventurous Activities in the Public Services
- Sport and Recreation in the Public Services
- Land Navigation by Map and Compass
- Employability Skills in the Public Services
This is a challenging course which will require you to take on responsibility for your own learning and skills development including personal fitness. You will need to be well organised and be able to demonstrate that you have a responsible attitude to dealing with a variety of practical situations.
Assessment:
80% course work, 20% exams. 2 exam papers
Studying at Alton College:
Lessons in the classroom will include a mixture of formats including group work, individual activities, guest speakers, role plays, using case studies and some formal note-taking sessions.. Outside of the classroom you will take part in fitness training and a variety of practical teamwork activities which may involve getting wet and muddy.
Entry requirements:
Students should normally have achieved a Grade 3 profile at GCSE. For GCSEs which remain with the old grading system, a Grade 3 is equivalent to a Grade D.
To study this course, you should also have an interest in working with people.
Course costs:
Essential: £20 for textbooks, about £15 for course specific clothing, £450 for trips to Public Services organisations and adventurous training activities such as paintballing , a week residential trip to Wales and many other activities linked to your development.
